How and why does diet affect a woman's chances of getting breast cancer?Jennifer Harvey: Diet is a difficult thing to study with regard to breast cancer, because diet tends to change a lot during the course of a person's life. There might be periods where people eat very healthy and other periods where they don't. So it's a difficult thing to study. Currently, there is not great solid data showing that diet affects breast cancer risk significantly. It certainly does for other cancers, particularly colon cancer, but there is not great data for breast cancer.
